The Call to Honor and Recognize the Divine Within Us Dear brothers and sisters, Today,…
Faith is the Essence of Things Unseen…
Faith is the essence of things unseen, the substance of all things hoped for…
In today’s readings, we discover a profound call to trust in God’s justice and mercy, as well as the courage of faithful witness even amid suffering. Leviticus 25 highlights the Year of Jubilee, a sacred time of restoration and freedom—reminding us that God desires mercy and renewal in our lives and communities. Psalm 67 invites us to rejoice and be glad, for God’s salvation shines on all peoples. Matthew 5:10 promises blessings to those persecuted for righteousness, while Matthew 14:1-12 recounts the martyrdom of John the Baptist, a powerful example of faithfulness in the face of danger.
Consider the story of an elderly man who lived as a farmer and had experienced many hardships. Once he was asked if he ever gave up hope through his difficulties. He replied, “I have never lost faith because I know the fields rest every seven years so the land can heal and come back strong. Likewise, God’s timing always brings renewal to our spirits if we trust and persevere.” This simple truth echoes the Jubilee principle in Leviticus—God calls us to trust His timing and mercy, even when life seems harsh or unfair.
Saint John Paul II once said, “Do not be afraid. Open wide the doors to Christ!” His words urge us to witness boldly to our faith, like John the Baptist, even when faced with trials. Blessed are those who stand firm in righteousness, for they shall see God’s promise fulfilled.
Reflection Questions:
– In what ways do you experience the need for spiritual renewal, like the land’s Sabbath rest?
– How do you respond when your faith is challenged or causes hardship?
– How can you be a courageous witness to God’s truth in your daily life?
